Stockholm Alternative. Scarab amulets in the ancient Egypt were made starting at least 5000 years ago, for both the living and the dead. For the living, it was believed that carrying scarabs as amulets could protect one from evil. For the dead, the "Heart scarab" would be placed on the center of the deceased's chest, and sometimes repeated spells from the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
